Religious Education

Religious Education

The seed of faith is planted in Baptism, nourished by parents, grandparents, Godparents, Priests and Catechists by teaching and good example; and is given growth by God through His Grace and Sacraments and in a loving relationshipo with each of us, His people the Church.

Religious Education Classes Grades 1-6

Religious education classes at St. Catherine's are held on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year for Kindergarten through 6th grade, from 5:30 to 6:30pm followed by Mass from 6:30 to 7:00. We try to provide our week of Summer CCD as soon as possible after school is out.

The goal of the volunteer catechists is to assist parents in handing on the Catholic faith to their children.

Adults interested in teaching classes or who are willing to substitute should contact the CCD Coordinator, MirandaTeel at 308-470-0849.

Preparation for the Sacraments

Students prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion during their 2nd grade year. The Bishop of Lincoln comes to Indianola every 3 years for Confirmation. This would normally be for students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Our next Confirmation will be in the fall of 2020.

High School Youth Ministry

The Saint Catherine’s CYO group meets in two groups - 7-10th grade meet Wednesday evenings in the hall and Grades 11-12 meet in a local home. Activities/fundraisers include cooking up breakfasts to feed to the parish on various Sundays throughout the year, providing childrens games during parish social events, and an annual trip to either Colorado for a ski trip or a service trip to Lincoln to assist at the Matt Talbot kitchen. The upper grades are currently studying a new book called YouCat - a book that uses familiar terms and engaging language. We encourage any high school age student to join us for an exciting year of learning, service, and fun.
